The Impact of Social Media on Young Minds
Year 6 Pupil Workshop

In today’s digital world, many primary-aged children are spending increasing amounts of time online—often without fully understanding the impact of social media on their thoughts, feelings, and behaviour.

We offer an engaging 60-minute live virtual workshop for Year 6 pupils, delivered by World Champion Inline Skater and wellbeing expert Jenna Downing MSc (Psychology).

This interactive session helps pupils explore:

• The difference between real life and the “highlight reel” online
• How filters and edited images affect body image and self-esteem
• The pressure of comparing themselves to “perfect” lifestyles
• How apps are designed to keep users hooked (e.g. scrolling habits)
• The impact of doomscrolling on mood and wellbeing
• Simple, practical ways to manage screen time

The workshop encourages open discussion, builds awareness, and equips pupils with the confidence to make healthier choices online.
